Measuring Washington State Gubernatorial Candidate Rob McKenna

As a moderate, rational, and constructive Republican Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna has shown a lot of promise - but has he followed through on that promise as Attorney General. Has he finished the job?

Personally, I think he still has the **potential** to be a great governor, but not yet.

Attorney General Rob McKenna
PO Box 40100
Olympia, WA 98504-0100
United States

Dear Mr. McKenna:

I am writing you today regarding the progress of your career and your current campaign for Governor.

We do not know each other well, though, technically, I am a classmate of yours at the Economics program of the University of Washington, transferring in during your final semester. We were also colleagues of sorts at King County where I was employed while you were a King County Councilmember, and, like you, I had a career relevant exchange with Ron Sims.

As you do recall we did have the chance to associate through the RTA board and both substantially contributed to the passage of Sound Transit 1, you as a constructive critic, and I as a very well educated citizen proponent responsive to your well stated concerns.
It is therefore a sad fact for me to find you not qualified to be Governor at this time, based on the public record, in its general sense and as it applies to myself, particularly.

The practice of law is sick in Washington State and it is your responsibility to see that it is healthy, most notably within the King County Prosecutors Office, your cronies, and, equally challenging, the former legal associates and current cronies of our failed current Governor, Christine Gregoire.

Your association with these conspirators against the public contradicts your promise as a younger man, as I, and I would hope others, such as Maggie Fimia and Brian Derdowski, would attest, is actionable in a court of law.

I would hope that you realize that your job as Attorney General is not finished and would withdraw from the race. If you do not do so I will take your lack of responsibility as concluding proof of your unsuitably to serve the public in any fashion, the failure not only of your party but also of the corporate interests which control it.

The next governor will need your leadership right where you are now to have any hope of righting this ship of State, along with State Auditor Brian Sonntag and a Legislature that at least shows some respect for the state’s fiduciary responsibilities to its citizens.

It might well that this person is a Democrat, but it might well also be the case that we could see the type of bi-partisan leader this country really needs – a leader we are sure to NOT see arrive on the national scene next year. The Republican Party in Washington State had the chance to build toward this with Dino Rossi, but instead of serving independent voters chose to go off on a control freak that presaged the KKK reminiscent hate mongering of the purchasers of the Tea Party movement. The Republican Party has failed, in this Country and in Washington State and it is time for ‘you’ to own your failure.

Sincerely,

Douglas Tooley
