Escalante River - Day Three

After Fence the main canyon gets narrower again, beginning an alternating pattern of wide and narrow canyon until Scorpion creek.

There is not a whole lot of fauna on the Escalante - mostly birds.  No doubt this critter was hiding from same.  Also seen where a few tracks from what I believe were mid-sized felines.

One exceptional thing about seasonal desert paddling - the trip often corresponds with wildflower season.

There was a lot of this flower throughout the trip - I'd guess it to be some sort of Mallow or native Hollyhock.

The deep red of this prickly pear was gorgeous.

On the lower river the cactus flowers turned from red to a vibrant pink.

I believe this is an Indian Paint Brush.

Note the huge overhanging wall here.

This is a prominent feature called the 'Yurt Dome'.  Note how the Canyon is now including Buttes, Mesas, and Spires.

A waterfall on a sidecreek - Camp George Sherman, if I recall correctly.
